Green IT
A key aspect of Digital Links’ work is to limit strain on the world’s resources and help protect the environment. Every computer we distribute has been requested by the recipient organisation and is fully functional with at least three to five years of life remaining.
Hundreds of millions of PCs, laptops, monitors and printers become obsolete each year; over three million PCs annually end up in UK landfill. Many of these are fully functional and have many years of life remaining. When dumped, the hazardous materials contained in some computer parts are highly toxic when mishandled and so must be disposed of safely.
Reuse is the best form of recycling, and donating computers to charity will help you to meet your legal and ethical environmental obligations. Working computers are reused and any faulty machines are fully recycled. Nothing goes to landfill. More…

For this reason Digital Links has committed itself to research affordable ways to minimise the environmental impact of its own activities and to encourage other organisations involved in the development of ICT use in Africa to do the same.
