Digital Links is the only organisation combining micro-finance and technology for development. Under our new ‘Digital_Loan’ initiative, in partnership with Mecene Investment, DELL and Microsoft, Digital Links will provide affordable access to the best technology available worldwide, both refurbished and new. The Digital_Loan initiative represents a new chapter in the Digital Links story as we seek to create innovative methods of transferring affordable technology to the developing world. This partnership will be instrumental reducing barriers to ICT hardware for a large number of users across the continent. Our main focus is education, reaching secondary and university students as well as teacher training colleges.
Under this scheme, low-income groups such as students, teachers, civil servants, nurses and doctors will have access to micro-loans to purchase extremely low-cost, high-quality new and refurbished PCs and software. Access to technology provides incredible opportunities for insertion into the global marketplace and workforce. By providing the best technology available worldwide at an affordable cost, Digital Links will help to establish the infrastructure and skills necessary to promote educational, health and economic development.
This program has already been kicked off and officially announced at
the Commonwealth Business Council Summit in Dubai in February 2009 and
now acts as a success story in their ongoing efforts to help bridge the
digital divide.
