Digital Links Welcomes New CEO

Dr Gillian Marcelle joined Digital Links on 10th January 2008. Gillian has 20 years experience in development, with a particular focus on harnessing the potential of technologies, and so was the ideal choice to take forward the work of Digital Links.

Her most recent role was with the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the private sector development finance institution of the World Bank Group. Prior to work at the IFC she led a strategic advisory practice in ICT and development, which took her to many of Digital Links’ focus countries. In addition to her professional responsibilities, Gillian has served on the Board of the UN ICT Task Force and as a member of the International Advisory Panel on ICT4Development as well as founding global advocacy networks such as the WSIS Gender Caucus.  She remains active in academic and policy networks that are focused on science and technology for development issues.

The team and Trustees at Digital Links are extremely excited about working with Gillian to build on the successes of the past five years.

Sir Paul Judge, Digital Links Chairman, says:

"The trustees chose Dr Gillian Marcelle after an extensive recruitment campaign because of her wide experience of development issues and her obvious commitment to the use of technology in emerging economies, especially in Africa.  Our model of using top class redundant equipment from the West is both economically and environmentally beneficial and we know that every PC we deploy will improve the life chances of at least 25 children every year. We look forward to Gillian continuing to build on Digital Links' current momentum and to our reaching even more disadvantaged communities with the technology which can transform their lives. We wish her all the best in her new role"
