Are you compliant with the WEEE legislation? Yes. We are fully compliant with the legislation. We provide a full audit trail, and we have a no landfill policy, so any items that cannot be reused are completely recycled.
What is the minimum specification that you accept? The minimum specification of computer that we accept is a Pentium III processor with a 733Mhz processor speed, 64Mb RAM and a 6Gb hard drive. We accept 15" and 17" monitors. All items need to be in working order.
What about equipment that is below the minimum specification? We can collect this if it is accompanied by equipment of a higher specification, but we would need to recycle it, as we cannot use it in our projects in Africa. The costs of recycling computers and other equipment will be passed to you.
Do you take non-working equipment? We can take non-working equipment if it is accompanied by working equipment, as we provide a one-stop IT disposal service. We recycle computers and other equipment.
Why do you have a minimum number of items? To keep our operations cost-effective we ask for a minimum of 25 items.
What other items do you accept, apart from monitors, base units and laptops? We can accept laser printers, but we cannot accept other telephone equipment, dot matrix printers, photocopiers, projectors or fax machines, except for recycling.
Do you take office furniture? No, we do not currently take office furniture, but we do have a partnership with Green Works, a charity that who can help in this area. See www.green-works.co.uk for more information.
Are there any costs involved? In some instances we are able to collect equipment for free, however, this depends on the quantity and spec of the computers. We can also often offset some of the collection and refurbishment costs against the value of laptops or higher specification items. Please contact us for more information.
Can I find out who my computer benefits? Yes, we keep a full report on what happens to your computers, from their collection, right to which country and community that it is shipped to. This means that we can tell you exactly who your old computers are benefitting, which can have significant PR benefits, both internally and externally.
Do you accept deliveries? Yes, we will accept deliveries to our warehouse in Crewe. However, we need to know when you will deliver the items and how much equipment you will deliver (approximately) so that we can make sure there is someone on hand to accept the equipment. You will still receive a full audit trail for the machines.
What happens to the computers once they have come to the end of their life in Africa? We are the only organisation working to recycle end of life machines in Africa. We have piloted a programme in Ghana that, once fully established, will recycle most components locally, and re-export hazardous materials back to Europe.
