3000 LAPTOPS FOR HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS ACROSS SENEGAL
Digital Links kick-starts the Digital_Loan scheme in Senegal with the 1 student / 1 laptop initiative.
Digital Links has partnered with Mecène Technology and Mecer to
deliver incredibly low-cost, high-quality new laptops for teachers,
students and core administrative staff at universities and management
schools across Senegal. The 1 student / 1 laptop initiative focuses on
low-income groups in the education sector providing access to
micro-credit for the purchase of affordable, high-quality MSI laptops
complete with WIFI, webcam and 160 Gb hard-drive.
These laptops will help teachers and students in the planning and
execution of courses, seminars and research projects. This will not
only help students to complete course work and develop ICT skills, but
also facilitate communication, information sharing, and best practice
among teachers. It will enable school administration to streamline
operations and develop online systems integration.
Digital Links is the only organisation combining micro-finance and
technology for development. Under the ‘Digital_Loan’ initiative, in
partnership with Mecène Technology, Digital
Links will provide affordable access to the best technology available
worldwide, both refurbished and new.
Digital Links’ Executive Director, Mrs. Aissatou Sow says, “The
Digital_Loan initiative represents a new chapter in the Digital Links
story as we seek to create innovative methods of transferring
affordable technology to the developing world.”
This partnership will be instrumental in reducing barriers to ICT
hardware for a large number of users across Africa. Digital Links’ main
focus is education, at the secondary and university level as well as
teacher training colleges.
Access to technology provides incredible opportunities for
insertion into the global marketplace and workforce. By providing the
best technology available worldwide at an affordable cost, Digital
Links will help to establish the infrastructure and skills necessary to
promote educational, health and economic development.
The 1 student / 1 laptop initiative is the first deployment of the
Digital_Loan scheme, which is set to be rolled out in Cameroon, Zambia
and several other countries across Africa in the coming year.
