History

The Digital Links story began in 2002 with entrepreneur and philanthropist Chris Mathias. In partnership with former Executive Director David Sogan, Chris began laying the ground work for an organisation that would provide access to information technology for people across the developing world. At its inception Digital Links hoped to enhance teaching, learning and business performance in disadvantaged communities and countries to facilitate economic and social development.

The point is to help them gain access, to move into a new world of work and commerce”.

It was a goal that required dedication and vision, as well as the support of several committed organisations and people who contributed their time, resources and business acumen to drive Digital Links through its foundational stages. The first consignment of computers sent were donated by Barclays Bank, whose staff cleaned, packed and delivered their old computers to the docks ready for shipment.

Digital Links is now a self-supporting organisation with offices in London and partners on the African continent. Our model relies heavily on the same type of partnerships through which it began; committed corporate donors and distribution partners on the ground.

Over 1.5 million have had access to IT equipment thanks to this initiative. We intend to do more...
